“I think we’re one of three or four queer-owned spaces in Eugene,” general manager TJ Mooney said.

Nelson’s serves Mexican fare and colorful cocktails in an old home located off Blair Boulevard.

“If you want to sit here with your girlfriend, or girlfriends, we don’t think about it. Even better, it has a thriving lgbtq+Q community where all can feel celebrated and at home.

“No one should feel like a burden in this space,” Rost said.

The pair has made multiple modifications to their coffee shop to make customers of all types feel comfortable, from removing the beeper from their microwave for neurodivergent patrons to having a sign fingerspelling "open" and "shut" for their deaf or hard-of-hearing customers.

“No matter who you call your partner, or what your faith is, or your abilities, we’re not here to question those, we’re here so you can be who you are,” Feuerborn said.
