The Honeycrisp apple is the crown jewel of our orchard - the "apple of our eye"  (although we enjoy our other varieties also). With its origins dating back to 1991, this apple has captured the hearts and palates of apple enthusiasts worldwide.

Created through a meticulous hybrid cross of the Macoun and Honeygold varieties, the Honeycrisp apple brings together the best traits of both parents.

IN-PERSON AT THE ORCHARD:

Come out to Sunrise Orchards (Main Location) this fall - your destination to buy fresh apples, cider and much more. Enjoy hot apple cider or coffee while you shop.  

Samples are available of our various apple varieties throughout our season.

You can also dice them and add them to coleslaw or chopped salads for an extra burst of flavor.

Looking to add some extra flair to your sandwiches or burgers? The combination of the sweet apple and savory fillings will surely elevate your sandwich game.

If you prefer cooked dishes, Honeycrisp apples maintain their sweetness even when baked.

Welcome to Sunrise Orchards at Hillcrest!

After 39 years of dedicated ownership, Robert Zimpel has decided to retire from the apple retail business.  Family-owned Sunrise Orchards recently acquired Hillcrest Orchard in 2024 and it will now be known as Sunrise Orchards at Hillcrest.

This unique feature sets it apart from other apples, which thrive at slightly lower temperatures of 33 degrees Fahrenheit.

At our orchard, we take pride in cultivating the finest Honeycrisp apples.

OPEN DAILY: August 17 - December 21, 2026  

Closed for the 2025 Season.

Their crisp texture and sweet flavor make them a versatile ingredient for both raw and cooked preparations.

When it comes to raw preparations, you can enjoy Honeycrisp apples simply by eating them as is. It requires a slightly warmer temperature of 38°F and high humidity (90-95%) to maintain its flavor and texture.

When planning a trip to the orchard for specific variety of apples, it is always best to call ahead to make sure they are available.

Honeycrisp apples crisp texture makes them shine in raw preparations; eating out-of-hand, diced and added to coleslaw and chopped salads; or sliced thin and added to sandwiches and burgers.  Honeycrisp apples are great for eating, pie, sauce, salads, jelly, pickling, baking and freezing.

A person who observes or participates in an agricultural tourism activity on this property assumes the risks inherent in agricultural tourism activity.

Try our assortment of delicious specialty foods and sample our cold Sunrise Apple Cider and Sunrise Honeycrisp Apple Cider.   On weekends, during the height of the apple season, enjoy a Queen's Apple - a mouthwatering treat!

Home Delivery Apples

We're offering home delivery of your favorite apples during peak season!

The incredible texture and refreshing taste make it a favorite among apple lovers of all ages.

But the Honeycrisp doesn't just delight the taste buds; it also offers exceptional storage capabilities. Wisconsin State Statute 895.524

Photo & Video Notice

By entering Sunrise Orchards, you agree to being photographed or recorded for marketing and social media purposes.

This will include their famous apple cider donuts, complimentary cider and other tastings, and a wide variety of apples. When properly refrigerated at 38 degrees Fahrenheit, this apple can maintain its outstanding flavor and texture for months on end. If you prefer not to appear in any photos or videos, please let a staff member know when you arrive.

 The apples will be carefully packed in a special protective box, to ensure arriving in excellent condition.  This is available to those in the Spee-Dee Delivery Service area (WI, IA, IL, MN, SD, ND).  This service is available end of August - Mid October.

EverCrisp Apple Subscription!

You'll receive three deliveries of 30 firm, great tasting, EverCrisp apples during the months of January, February and March.

They will also continue to offer potatoes, onions, mums, pumpkins, and other beloved items that Hillcrest has had over the years.
