Bacon was a self-educated thinker as well as a self-taught artist, who had several copies of Nietzsche’s work on his night table. One was Yvonne Bocquentin, a sophisticated connoisseur whom he met at an exhibition opening, a hint that he was already taking an interest in the visual arts. At one point he traveled to Berlin with a sexually adventurous family friend; Bacon would later claim his father “sold” him to this friend.

Escaping as a young man to London and Paris, Bacon began a brief career as a designer.

Van Homboldt died in 1859 and posthumously, his peers recognized that he was part of the LGBTQ+ community because of relationships with army officer Reinhard von Haeften and Wilhelm Gabriel Wegener. As a natural researcher, he used the modern scientific method to question the world around him and better understand the landscape.     The 16-year-old Bacon went to London with no clear idea of what he wanted to do.

    Before leaving his home for the day, Bacon often wore makeup emphasizing his bruises. As Bacon suffered from asthma as a child, all this animal hair aggravated his condition. She also regularly wrote gardening articles for the Observer. Her contributions to the natural world include a passionate take on floral communication. Van Humboldt took a journey throughout Latin America from 1799 – 1804, the second recorded scientific voyage to South America from Europe.
